Guide

Which PDF tool do you need?

All three tools run in your browser using the open-source pdf-lib and PDF.js libraries, so your documents are processed on your device and never uploaded.

Images to PDF — when you have photos or scans

Use it to turn photos of paperwork, receipts, ID cards or screenshots into a single PDF. Add as many images as you like, drag them into order, then choose a page size: Fit to image for borderless pages, or A4 or US Letter for documents that will be printed. Margins of up to 30 mm and an Image quality setting (85% by default) let you balance appearance and file size. Each image is scaled to at most 2,400 pixels on its longest side, about 200 DPI on an A4 page. How to convert photos to PDF covers taking photos that stay readable.

Merge PDF — when you have several PDFs

Combine two or more PDFs into one file in the order you set. Merging is lossless: pages are copied exactly, so text stays selectable and each page keeps its size. Password-protected files need to be unlocked first. For the best order for applications and claims, see how to merge PDF files privately.

Compress PDF — when a PDF is too large

Best for scanned and photo-heavy PDFs, which often shrink by 70–90%. Choose Light, Balanced or Strong and a resolution from 72 to 220 DPI (150 by default). Pages are re-rendered as optimised images, so text in the compressed copy can't be selected, and your original is never changed. If the result wouldn't be smaller, the tool tells you and keeps your original. How to compress a PDF that's too large explains which settings to use for email, portals and print.

Frequently asked questions

Are my documents uploaded?

No. Everything happens in the browser tab you have open. That's why these tools suit bank statements, contracts and identity documents.

Is there a file size limit?

There's no fixed limit; the practical limit is your device's memory. Ordinary documents are fine on any modern phone or computer. Very large scans with hundreds of pages are quicker on a computer.

Do the tools work on phones?

Yes, in Safari, Chrome and other modern mobile browsers. Pick files from your photo gallery or Files app.

In what order should I use them?

A common workflow is: photos to PDF first, then merge with your other PDFs, then compress the merged file if it's still too large for an email or portal.

Can I make the text in a scanned PDF searchable?

Yes — use AI OCR to extract the text from scanned pages, then copy it or download it as a Word file.
